At the recent Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing – China, Ned Fitzgerald was the only Australian representing fencing. The Victorian fencer defeated his French and German opponents in the pool and he therefore soared to 5th place on the ranking chart.
Youth Olympic Games Sees First Australian for Fencing
Edward (Ned) Fitzgerald is the first Australian to compete in Fencing at the Youth Olympic Games.
Ned gained his place at the Nanjing Youth Olympics after great results at the Junior Fencing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria earlier in 2014.

Meet Antonio Signorello
The Head Coach from the Australian Fencing Federation, Antonio Signorello, was present at the games, providing advice and support for the Australian representative. Antonio came to Australia with an impressive background in 2009 has been working to promote Australian Fencing. He has worked closely with Arash Karpour in the Italian style of fencing and together they have been improving the quality of the sport and have created a greater number of champions in both National and International competitions.
